A year 6 child was given a sports bag with some tennis balls in it one morning. She decided that every day she would ask Miss Quinn, the school PE teacher, to double the number of balls in the sports bag in the morning and that she would give two balls to Year 2 to keep and play with in the afternoon.
At the end of the third day, there were 34 tennis balls in the sports bag. How many tennis balls were in the sports bag when the year 6 child was given it?
