Looking for something different to do with the family? Why not discover more about our wonderful city through a fascinating local history trail?
We Need to Walk About Empire is an educational walking route created by Dr Jody Crutchley (Liverpool Hope University), Daisy Horsley (Historic England) and Lisa Murphy (Great Crosby Catholic Primary).
The trail explores seven important Liverpool landmarks, helping children and adults learn about the city’s historical links to the British Empire and the ways this history can still be seen in Liverpool’s buildings and monuments today.
The trail begins and ends at the International Slavery Museum and can be completed either in person or from home using the virtual tour. Best of all, it is completely free.
Although the information is aimed primarily at Key Stage 2 pupils, younger children in EYFS and KS1 can also join in by spotting the featured buildings and looking for interesting details such as the elephants and pineapples on the exterior of Liverpool Town Hall.
Why not get out for a family walk during half term, learn something new about our city and let our history lead Miss Prior know if you take part?
